In the 1950s, Hardeeville Fire Department and Ridgeland Fire Department were the only two departments serving Jasper County. Hardeeville Fire Department served the southern end, while Ridgeland Fire Department served the northern end.

In the late 1950s - early 1960s, Coosawhatchie Volunteer Fire Department was formed as a charter.

In 1985, Levy Fire Department began construction and opened in 1986, hiring their first paid firefighter in 2003.

In 1987, Jasper County purchased it’s first brand new Engine, which was housed at Ridgeland Fire Department. This was purchased by Ridgeland Fire Chief Tommy Jenkins, who was also the Fire Coordinator for Jasper County.

In 2005, Jasper County Fire Rescue (JCFR) was formed by county ordinance. This combined Jasper County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Ridgeland Rural Fire District, Cherry Point Fire District, Hardeeville Rural Fire District, Tillman Volunteer Fire Department, Robertville-Pineland Volunteer Fire Department, Coosawhatchie Volunteer Fire Department, Point South Volunteer Fire Department, Roseland Volunteer Fire Department and Grays Volunteer Fire Department.

Today, JCFR operates from 14 stations located in the unincorporated areas of Jasper County, with both paid and volunteer personnel.
